Background
and purpose of the position:
The Division of Public
Partnerships (PPD) works to strengthen UNICEF's position as a partner of choice
for children's rights among governments and public actors around the world. The
division is doing this by connecting UNICEF's positioning of children in intergovernmental
and multilateral fora and negotiations to the engagement with governments and
public institutions (including International Financial Institutions) as
resource, policy and program partners. A key premise for PPD is that the
engagement with countries should be based on multiple levels of partnerships,
including around resource mobilization and policy advocacy.
The intern will
support the overall work of the Africa team in building and maintaining good
partnership/relationships with the African Member States, enhancing the
dialogue on issues related to children as well as fostering and developing
innovative partnerships. The Intern's primary responsibilities include
supporting desk review and analysis as well as knowledge management.
Duties
and responsibilities:

Carry out research through perusal of published works and
undertake desk reviews and analysis on specific issues pertaining to
partnership, resource mobilization and policy advocacy;
·
Provide support to the preparation and organization of the
various meetings with the Africa Group of Ambassadors and Experts to the United
Nations and other events and prepare summary reports.
·
Update the country profiles, identify and compile information to
assist in drafting briefing materials for the senior management.
·
Attend selected meetings, prepare the minutes and support the
follow-up of actions and recommendations
·
Provide support to the monitoring, analysis and reporting on
issues and trends in the Africa region that affect children as they are
expressed in the intergovernmental and interagency arena including 3rd committee.
·
Other tasks to be assigned, as appropriate, according to the
intern's interest, including ad hoc covering and reporting back on relevant
intergovernmental and/or interagency meetings.

Summaries of briefings, events and selected inter-agency and
intergovernmental meetings;

Report on and summaries statements from Member States
intergovernmental meetings including 3rd committee

Qualifications, Skills& Competencies
Required:
o
Education: recently completed or currently enrolled in a 4- Year
College or university (international relations, economics, humanities and
social studies etc.) with good academic records.
o
Ability to synthesize information and communicate it simply and
effectively: Very good research and analytical skills;
o
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
o
Fluency in English. Knowledge of French is an asset.
o
Ability to operate in a diplomatic environment, using tact and
judgement.
o
Ability to work in an international and multicultural
environment. Competencies required: commitment, embracing diversity, integrity,
teamwork, drive for results; communication, analytical and conceptual thinking.
o
Knowledge of office computer systems and applications (Word,
Excel, PowerPoint) and internet research.
o
Knowledge of Africa particularly the social, economic and
development landscape

Understanding of UNICEF's mandate is a must.
Salary/Payment:
UNICEF will not pay
for services provided by an intern and all the expenses connected with these
services must be borne by the intern. There is no expectancy of employment at
the end of the internship. UNICEF is not responsible for obtaining any
necessary visas.
Insurance:
UNICEF will not be
responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the
intern's service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected
candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to
start his/her work with PPD.
Living
Conditions and Working Environment:
The intern will work
in UNICEF House New York attending meetings at and around the UN. S/he will
work with the PPD team in charge of Africa and report to the Senior Advisor.
S/he is not expected to travel during the assignment.

Duration: The internship programme lasts for
at least two months and can be as long as six months. Once selected, you must
begin your internship by the start date.
·
Cost: United Nations interns are not paid. All
costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be
borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
·
Visa: You will be responsible for obtaining
and financing for the necessary visas.
·
Travel: You will arrange and finance your
travel to the United Nations location where you will be an intern.
·
Medical insurance: You will be responsible for
costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship and
must show proof of a valid major global medical insurance coverage.
·
Confidentiality: You must be discreet and keep
confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of
the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.
If
accepted, the intern will be required to provide a copy of health insurance
coverage and to fill out the UNICEF form on conditions regarding service as an
intern.
